Cheers for Miss America, Nina Davuluri !

...M K Sinu

Ignore the uncharitable tweeples referring to Davuluri milestone. There were also contra-views on blogs like "I was just glad that the winner wasn't another damn blonde!" We’ll take neither seriously, what matters is only the achievement that Nina Davuluri and America is willing to accept and celebrate her adaptation of beauty.

Nina Davuluri is the first winner of Indian descent to be crowned Miss America. Davuluri’s achievement triggered heated national debate on immigration, national identity, and who is — or should be — an American.

What makes us proud is the fact that “mana” Telugu girl from Vijaywada achieved this fete. Coming from a family of doctors, Davuluri graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science. She’s planning to apply to medical school soon.

Her performance of a Bollywood-style dance at the Miss America pageant in a sari was described as “fun dance with plenty of energy.”

Miss Nina Davuluri. Just can’t get enough of it.

So what next?

  1. I was just going through some of the #MissAmerica Facebook pages and support pages of hers.. God! the anguish that some of the filthy white people feel about she winning the crown is surprising!! Race, Caste, Religion, Nation, Skin colour, Origin.... why the hell does it bother to some morons?? Why not let her enjoy what she achieved. I am sure the judges ain't morons to have made her the final pick. We are very happy of her no matter who she is.

    #NinaDavuluri ...we love u!! :)

  3. First of all she is an American born. Just that her parents are born in India. So she is a US citizen. I don't think anyone else should have any problem with an american winning the american title.. :D

  7. She being a US or Indian citizen comes second I guess. Firstly she is a human being and has all the rights to do whatever she wishes to. Its a individual perception to judge things n I don think criticising or making a fuss abt all these are important in this period were we have better other things to concentrate n decide on.
    #well written Sinu.. kudos.
