...MK Sinu
Deepika Padukone PR agency is at
the turnstile now. The reigning queen bee of ‘Bollywood’ at least by the series
of hits she’s had in the last 2 years, we are made to believe that #Fast and Furious 7
makers are desperate to rope in long-legged Deepika. We believe you. Then came
in the communiqué that Dippy is neck-deep with work shooting for ‘Happy New
Year’ and ‘Ram Leela’. So the makers of Fast and Furious 7 are apparently
Furious. We believe even that.
We all love this once in a while.
Our desi stars moonlighting in
Hollywood. A decade ago or so, the phenomenon started to spread its roots.
First on the list was Sushmita Sen, at least if our collective memory is
serving us right. No it is not serving us right, it was Persis Khambatta. Remember Star Trek (the
motion picture). My research on Google shows she was also considered for the
title role in #James Bond film Octopussy.
Blame it on the Page 3 onslaught.
We never complained when one morning with the regular ‘politics-violence-business-sports’
spread had a svelte colourful companion in each city. And a colour spread at
that! When the updates on the moods and manias of the movies stars was getting
a little nauseating. The PR agencies of these stars were keeping tab. Let’s accept this now we are in a star-struck
nation, we do treat them as high-ranking entities however insouciant they
appear to be.
We had a whole lot of other to
follow suit. Any star worth his or her make-up made this lofty claim of
‘connecting to an agent in Hollywood’. We too watch English movies, and we know
how many of them have shown and what screen time they’ve had. From Bride and Prejudice 2004 to #Pink Panther
in 2009 Aishwarya Rai’s outings were mostly commercial clinkers. Barring one
spicy scene in ‘Mistress of Spice.’ So her razzmatazz was short lived.
Even Mallika Sherawat also jumped
on to the bandwagon with here slithery act in Hisssss! Eeeeeish. Well then it
was a Hindi crossover film. Whatever crossover meant? Last heard a wannabe in tinsel town lament on Hollywood
films. “A certain no to dark and uneasy
stuff please…, unless it has good sex.” That pouting expression on the starlet was
intact.
Our own hirsute Anil Kapoor
hobnobbed in couple of Hollywood enterprise. Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire
and who can forget the perennially randy buffoonery act in Mission: Impossible
- Ghost Protocol. It was total ‘nai re
babaaa...’ act.
On a parting note we all know how
ruthless the production studios are in Hollywood. We’ll not even talk about the
unchecked profiteering and ideological corruption.
Who’s next in the line?
I wish Deepika reads this.. She would definitely have a confusion whether to laugh or cry. But lets continue to surprise her anyways. ;) Loved every bit of it.
ReplyDeleteCheers !!
Keep it coming :D
Let she be the rock-star in Fast n Furious 7 as all wished...
ReplyDeletenah.. she isn't the star in Fast and Furious 7. She might have lost in the auditions :D :D :D
Deletewoooww... :D a small knock on the head... :D for her and her fans..
ReplyDeleteawesome post.. :)
hahahaha.. poor deepika.. ;)
ReplyDeletei do believe that Hollywood is an undisputed champion... but lets not have that as a benchmark for actors. These bollywood fellows don't understand the fact that Bollywood has its charm too and instead, they are in, to do a blink-and-miss role in Hollywood even for free. :( Loosers !!
Thank goodness...! She said no to it.. or I'm sure we'd be all laughing at her, for whatever time we would see her on screen. Good move Deepika.
